UNL Jazz Orchestra, UNL Big Band take center stage at Kimball

On Friday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. the Glenn Korff School of Music’s UNL Jazz Orchestra and the UNL Big Band will take center stage in Kimball Recital Hall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Join us for the premiere performance of the Glenn Korff School of Music’s new 21st Century Jazz/Classical “Crossover” ensemble – The UNL Jazz Orchestra “2.0”! This ensemble combines the standard big band instrumentation of saxophones, brass, and rhythm section with newly added strings, french horn, percussion, and voice to present music that reflects the evolution of jazz and classical composition and arranging. Our premiere concert presents new music, all of which has been composed or orchestrated for this premiere performance. The program features new works by Tom Larson, Darren Pettit, Derek Molacek, and Eric Richards.

Also, please join the UNL Big Band, directed by Graduate Teaching Assistant Masayoshi Ishikawa, for its final concert of the semester. The program includes Tell Me A Bed Time Story (comp: Herbie Hancock, arr: Gary Lindsay), Don’t Be That Way (comp: Benny Goodman, arr: Nelson Riddle) and Stompin’ At The Savoy (comp: Edgar Sampson, arr: Bill Holman)

The cost is General Admission $5; Student/Seniors $3. The performance will also be live webcast. Visit music.unl.edu the night of the event for the link to the performance.
