Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts to continue

A proposal to create a new Hixson-Lied College of the Arts and Architecture, a consolidation of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts and College of Architecture at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, was removed from the June agenda of the Board of Regents, and UNL officials do not expect it to be considered in the near future. As a result, the two colleges will continue to operate in their present configurations.

“While I am disappointed at this outcome, I am extremely proud of our faculty, students, alumni and other constituents in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts,” said Endowed Dean Charles O’Connor. “I could not be more proud of our college and the way we pulled together to do everything possible to make this work. We certainly hope that in the future there might still be opportunities for collaboration with our colleagues in the College of Architecture.”

Christopher Marks, associate professor of organ, will still become associate dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts on July 1. He takes over from Professor of Art History Christin Mamiya, who is returning to her role as a professor of art and art history.
