Guest artist Jeffery Jones, Baritone, from Coastal Carolina University, will be joining University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music tenor Kevin Hanrahan and pianist Denis Plutalov in a recital of Ives and Grainger songs on Thursday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.
As two former British colonies, the composers in the United States, through its independence from Great Britain, and in Australia, by its geographic isolation from Great Britain, have developed unique voices and sounds. This recital explores those sounds in the songs of two of the most influential and provocative composers, Charles Ives from the US, and Percy Grainger from Australia. In addition to the exploration of finding their voices, Kevin Hanrahan has commissioned a new work from New Zealand/Australian composer, Diana Blom entitled “The Ballad of the Canterbury Pilgrims” for soprano, tenor, baritone and piano, and Drs, Jones, Hanrahan, and Plutalov will be joined by Dr. Jamie Reimer for this world premiere.
