Three Brass Ensembles take to Westbrook stage in November

The Large Brass Ensembles at the UNL Glenn Korff School of Music (the Husker Horn Choir, the Nebraska Trombone Ensemble and the UNL Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble) will have its fall performance on Monday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall.

The Nebraska Trombone Ensemble will perform two new transcriptions both of which come from the Beach Boys’ canon. They will open with God Only Knows and then play Good Vibrations. Both songs are Brian Wilson compositions with God Only Knows considered one of the finest pop love songs ever written-at least according to Paul McCartney! Good Vibrations is an amazing transcription with four alto trombone parts. The group will open their performance with Tower Music by Vaclav Nelhybel and conducted by Brian Lew.

The Husker Horn Choir will open with a heroic fanfare by Gottfried Freiberg, a beautiful arrangement by Samuel Scheidt of Ein Feste Berg for double horn quartet, and a couple of jazzy Fripperies written by Lowell Shaw.

The UNL Tuba - Euphonium ensemble will perform three works including one of the most performed pieces written for this combination of instruments, “Tuba Musicale” by Rocco DiGiovaninni. They will also play a piece by Michael Haydn and a work by former Texas Tech faculty member, Jean Marie Appledorn.

The performance is free and open to the public.
