The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music is proud to present the thirteenth annual CELEBRATION OF AMERICAN SONG on Monday, January 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. This year's celebration honors the longest collaborating composer and lyricist team in the history of Broadway musicals, Kander and Ebb. As a composer, John Kander and with his lyricist partner, Fred Ebb, have contributed songs to over thirty Broadway musicals. Their songs have been performed by Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, Chita Rivera, David Hyde Pierce, and hundreds of others.
UNL's voice faculty, alumni, and students will present live performances of Kander and Ebb's songs, ranging from the iconic "New York, New York" made famous by Frank Sinatra—to the night-life-loving "All that jazz" from the second longest running musical on Broadway, Chicago. Louis Claussen will be featured at the piano and Coordinator of Musical Theatre Studies Alisa Belflower will serve as your host narrating with anecdotes from Kander and Ebbl's extraordinary life and career. 2019 will mark sixty consecutive years of John Kander’s compositions’ being performed on Broadway.
Come out and discover the composer and lyricist, whose songs continue to stir the hearts of contemporary audiences over a half century after the debut of their first hit musical Cabaret.
This performance will be presented two in acts with an intermission and an approximate running time of 90 minutes. Tickets (Adults $5, Students/Seniors $3) are available at the door on the evening of the performance with open seating. Don't miss this highly anticipated annual, one-night-only performance.
