Symphonic Band concert to celebrate women composers

Symphonic Band

Join the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Symphonic Band and conductor Tony Falcone for its program ‘DoubleX’ on Tuesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

The concert celebrates women composers with works by Jennifer Higdon, Julie Giroux, Chen Yi and Kimberly Archer. Professor of Saxophone Paul Haar will also join the Band for the Nebraska Premiere Performance of Street Hawker, Concerto for Saxophone and Wind Sinfonietta, by UNL Alumna Rachel Lanik Whelan.

Directed by Falcone, the Symphonic Band has the distinction of being the band program’s top symphonic ensemble. Its select mission is to provide instrumentalists with an opportunity to demonstrate and develop the techniques and musical instincts appropriate to a symphonic setting. With an emphasis on the distinctive characteristics of the large wind and percussion ensemble, the Symphonic Band’s repertoire is culled from the rich resources of the wind band tradition.

Tickets are General Admission $5; Students/Seniors $3. The performance will also be live webcast. Visit music.unl.edu the night of the performance for the direct link.
