Computer Science Education Week, Dec. 7-13

The Annual CS Ed week is December 7-13, 2020. We encourage you to check out https://www.csedweek.org. The site has nicely organized resources, and several events for which to register. This year, there is an additional focus on CS for Social Justice.

This year’s CS Ed week activities are organized into five threads: Teach, Inspire, Advocate, Involve, and Celebrate. Each thread has events and activities. For example, under Celebrate, students are encouraged to submit a 60-second video to thank their CS teachers. Under Inspire, there are Hour of Code activities, workshop recordings, family code night, outreach guides, and more. Under Teach, there are templates for students to create posters for CSforSocialJustice.

ACM (a partner of Code.org, a coalition of organizations dedicated to expanding participation in computer science) encourages you to host an Hour of Code in your community during CS Ed Week. The Hour of Code has introduced more than 1 billion students in more than 180 countries to computer science. Anyone, anywhere can organize an Hour of Code event, and anyone from ages 4 to 104 can try the one-hour tutorials (https://hourofcode.com/us/learn), which are available in more than 45 languages. Learn more about how to host an Hour of Code (https://www.csedweek.org/inspire) and how to promote your event (https://hourofcode.com/us/promote).

Please post activities you are hosting/participating in, pass along this information, and encourage others to post their activities. Tweet about it at #HourOfCode. @NebraskaMATH
