Registration is open until March 15 for the 25th Women in Science Conference on April 5-6, 2024, hosted by Nebraska EPSCoR and the Center for Science, Mathematics and Computer Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Events will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Innovation Campus, Willa Cather Dining Complex and Beadle Center on City Campus.

We encourage science teachers to bring up to four students from a high school to attend. The CSMCE has an application portal for registration, https://scimath-portal.unl.edu/login. Start by Creating an Account. The conference is limited to 100 students, so register soon!

See the website, https://scimath.unl.edu/women-in-science, for more information and the schedule. The conference has added a tour of Innovation Campus's Makerspace, greenhouse and food science building to the Friday agenda. Our keynote speakers are Dr. Judy Wu-Smart from Entomology and Dr. Georgia Jones of Food Science and Technology and Nebraska Extension.

This conference encourages students to pursue their interests in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology by introducing them to role models of successful women in a variety of fields. Students will hear women scientists speak about their careers and their lives outside of work. The students will participate in workshops to give them opportunities to learn more about science-related areas. Our goals are to expand understanding of the kinds of work scientists do and to dispel some myths surrounding science careers for women. Graduate and undergraduate students will help students learn more about college life and science majors.

Each school may bring up to four students to the conference, and a school sponsor must accompany them. A Friday night banquet, lunch on Saturday, and materials for the conference will be provided. Lodging (including breakfast) is available for schools that are at least 30 miles away from Lincoln (one way). Transportation and any other miscellaneous expenses are the responsibility of the participants. Eligible students and their sponsor will be housed at the Embassy Suites with four students or two sponsors assigned per room.

After registration closes, we will finalize reservations and provide you with additional information. If you have any questions, please contact our office at 402-472-9312, or Mike Bergland-Riese at riese@unl.edu. Space is limited so registrations submitted early are important to guarantee you can participate. We look forward to hosting students from your school in 2024!
