Getting an annual checkup is important, even if you consider yourself to be a healthy person.

It’s a no-brainer that the University Health Center is the place to go when you’re sick or injured. But did you know that’s not the only time you should use this valuable resource?

Here are five reasons you should plan to visit this semester.

Re-stock Your Medicine Cabinet
Now that you’re back from break, take inventory of the over-the-counter items you have. Are you running low on the basics, like pain relievers, cold and cough medicines, decongestants and first aid kit supplies? Stop by the health center pharmacy to stock up so that you don’t have to worry about venturing out to find the medicine you need when you feel under the weather. Many products are less than $5!

Take Advantage of Your Student Fees
You’ve already paid for them, so why not use the health center services covered by student fees? These services include certain visits to the medical and/or travel clinic every academic year, wellness profiles, certain doctor-ordered sexually transmitted infection testing, one nutrition counseling visit and more. Check out the health center website to learn more about which services are covered and which will have a charge.

Schedule a Check-up
Many conditions or behaviors that cause issues later in life begin as a young adult. Annual checkups and men’s or women’s health exams detect diseases, prevent illnesses and other problems, and allow you and your doctor to create a game plan to help you stay well. Preventive services are available at the health center. Although student fees do not cover these visits, the charges are usually covered by most private insurance plans.

Get Your Flu Shot
High levels of the flu have been reported across the state. If you haven’t been vaccinated, now is the time! It’s the best way to protect yourself, and it’s free for students at the health center.

Check Out Our Building Partners
The University Health Center building houses more than just health care services. Our partners include Counseling and Psychological Services, Husker Pantry and Big Red Resilience and Well-being. We work together to provide you with the holistic wellness services you need to be a healthy student.
