The International Student and Scholar Office and the Education Abroad Office will host the first-ever Virtual Study Abroad Day on June 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CDT on Zoom. The event will consist of multiple presentations from UNL international students sharing about their home countries.
Virtual Study Abroad Day will give domestic students the chance to “study abroad” over the summer through cultural exchange with their peers. Throughout the day, international students from France, Spain, Vietnam and India will give presentations about their countries and cultures via Zoom, and participants will be able to ask questions and network at the end.
Due to COVID-19 public health regulations and international travel restrictions, many domestic students were unable to study abroad in the spring or summer semesters. Many international students also had to make the difficult choice to return home in the spring, or remain in Lincoln through the summer when they normally return home to visit family and friends.
“This event is a chance to bring together domestic and international students whose lives have been impacted heavily by COVID-19,” said Nakell Baker, international student success navigator. “I am hopeful students, as well as faculty and staff, will learn something new and connect with others from across the globe through this event.”
The tentative schedule of panel sessions, listed in CDT, is:
- 11:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.: France
- 12:30 p.m.—1:45 p.m.: Spain
- 2:00 p.m.—3:00 p.m.: Vietnam
- 4:00 p.m.—5:00 p.m.: India
