Buying groceries is still one of the few reasons to leave your home. Here is how you can keep yourself safe at the store and continue eating healthy foods.

Step 1: Before you shop

  • The fewer times you need to head to the grocery store, the better. How can you make the most out of the items in your pantry? Find recipes that use up the ingredients you have on hand using this search tool.
  • Take advantage of grocery delivery or order groceries online and pick them up at the store. These services are in high demand, so do not wait until the last minute to make an order.
  • To make shopping in the store easier, plan your list ahead by looking online at what is available.

Step 2: While in the grocery store
  • Bring hand sanitizer wipes to clean cart handles and baskets.
  • Do not forget to keep a 6-foot distance from everyone and wear a face covering.
  • Freezing foods helps reduce the number of times you need to go to the store. Learn how to freeze fruit, vegetables, meats and whole meals at this website.

Step 3: When you get home
  • Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Sanitize your phone with a wipe that is at least 70% isopropyl alcohol or spray disinfectant on a cloth before wiping your phone.
  • Set up a clean and dirty station where you can unbag and place items that can be removed from the container and then toss the container. On the other part, you place items that you want to wipe off before storing.
  • Wash your hands again after you’ve finished putting away your groceries.
