It's easy to feel like there's never enough time in the day, no matter how well you plan to have fun or get things done. The yearly summer solstice, however, can be the exception to this rule. The summer solstice takes place on June 20, 2021, meaning it will be the longest day of the year. Get excited to get out and have a fun-packed morning, afternoon and evening. You can do any of these activities by yourself, with friends, or even with family for Father's Day.

Sunrise
You'll want to be an early riser to make the most of your time. Try waking up before 5:55 a.m. (CT) to catch a gorgeous sunrise. Climb up to a rooftop, hilltop, or any lookout point to get the best view of anyone in town.

Breakfast
You'll probably be hungry after being out all morning. Take the additional time as an opportunity to prepare yourself a delicious meal. Teach yourself how to make a fancy latte or coffee drink at home, or learn a recipe like crepes or stuffed french toast.

Early morning is also the ideal time to take a nice long walk. You don't need to worry about wasting away your daylight hours on the solstice, so take it slow and explore your area to put yourself in an openminded mood for the remainder of the day. This is also the optimal time to be active since it's still cooler outside. Check out the Great Plains Trail Network for a complete map of Lincoln's jogging, biking and walking trails. If you need a bike, rent one for cheap at the campus Outdoor Adventures Center.

Lunchtime
This is the perfect time to try a local restaurant. If you're in Lincoln for the summer, some tried-and-true spots include Rutabagas, Hub Cafe and The Oven.

Afternoon
You've got lots of options to fill your extended afternoon. Visit a local shop in your town, whether it be a boutique, bookstore or vintage shop. You can also visit the nearest zoo or art gallery, or swing by a sporting event or farmers market. Going swimming is another easy option, as you can head out to any local lake or city pool.

Evening
Grab some friends or family and make an evening bonfire. A cookout is the perfect way to catch up with people you love and enjoy all the outdoors has to offer. Pick up some hot dogs, brats or s'mores to roast over the fire for an easy dinner.
Or, go on a picnic in a scenic area near your home. Some popular picnic snacks to bring are crackers and cheese, sandwiches, fresh-cut fruit, or salads.

Sunset
At precisely 9:01 p.m., the sun will begin to set on the year's longest day, although twilight will last until nearly 10 p.m. Find another perch to watch the spectacle and reflect back on your long, adventurous day– and keep in mind that it's never too early to begin planning next year's solstice activities.
