Traveling the world as a college student is an incredible opportunity. Here are three tips to help you have a safe and enjoyable trip.
1. Schedule an appointment with the Travel Clinic at the University Health Center.
If you’re studying abroad, the health center can help you complete your health clearance form. Whether you’re going on vacation or studying abroad, the travel nurse will go through your itinerary to give you advice on country-specific travel advisories and make sure you receive all required immunizations. You should schedule your appointment two to three months before your anticipated departure date, or sooner if you need a series of immunizations.
2. Pack a first-aid kit and refill prescriptions.
Your first-aid kit should have what you need to take care of mild illnesses and injuries, but you don’t need to take an entire medicine cabinet. The University Health Center Pharmacy offers hundreds of products to help you stay well, including pain relievers, allergy medicine, vitamins and more. The pharmacy also fills prescriptions for 60 and 90-day supplies to keep you stocked up for longer periods of time.
3. Continue COVID-19 safety practices.
Even if you’re fully vaccinated, continue to social distance, wear a mask and keep your hands clean. Take extra masks, alcohol-based hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes with you when you travel.
