Huskers and RSOs can connect with service opportunities to help the Lincoln community. Join fellow Huskers this month to learn about Childhood Literacy and volunteer at nonprofits connected to fixing this social problem.

Explore and Understand: Childhood Literacy

Childhood literacy refers to the development of skills students need in order to transition from learning to read, to reading to learn. It is important for students to stay on-grade level from an early time in order to ensure later success in education.

Educare of Lincoln: March 20

Educare of Lincoln provides children from birth to age 5 with quality early education, support families, arm teachers with effective teaching practices. Students will have the opportunity to assist with leading activities for local youth and doing yard work around the facility on Monday, March 20th from 2pm to 4pm.

Boys and Girls Club of Lincoln/Lancaster County: March 21

Boys and Girls clubs of Lincoln/Lancaster County empowers youth to reach their full potential. Students will have the opportunity to assist with leading activities for local youth and doing yard work around the facility on Tuesday, March 21st from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

Little Free Libraries: March 22

Little Free Libraries have a mission to build community, inspire readers and expand book access through our network for volunteer-led Little Free Libraries. Students will have the opportunity to assemble children's coloring books that will then be distributed to little free libraries near campus on Wednesday, March 22 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.

Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties: March 23

Community Action Partnership Lancaster and Saunders Counties helps families in crisis to meet their basic needs, helps individuals attain their educational and employment goals, and ultimately helps people strengthen their own families. Students will have the opportunity to sort donations on Thursday, March 23 from 2pm to 4pm.

Lincoln Lighthouse: March 24

Lighthouse is an accredited After-School Program that offers middle and high school aged-youth academic support, evening meals, and enrichment / recreational activities in Lincoln, Nebraska. Students will have the opportunity to assist with leading activities for local youth and doing yard work around the facility on Friday, March 24th from 1pm to 3pm.

Submit a Story of Engagement

We are inviting Students to Submit a Story of Engagement before the end of every month so we can include them in future volunteer digest newsletters. The Story of Engagement blog will recognize Huskers who have participated in helping a nonprofit either through volunteering, raising proceeds, or conducting research.
