Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties: June 30, July 14 and July 28

Community Action empowers people living in poverty to reach economic stability. Huskers have the opportunity to volunteer on June 30, July 14 and July 28 between 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with their Head Start program. As a volunteer you will be assisting a lead teacher in chaperoning a group of 5 to 8 children between the ages of 1-3 play and walk around Trago Park located in Lincoln.

Lincoln Literacy: weekly Monday–Friday

Lincoln Literacy provides services rooted in language and literacy skills. Volunteers serve as tutors and assist with teaching participants inside either an English language course or an adult skills course. Volunteers commit to helping once a week for 30 minutes each time.

Food Bank of Lincoln: weekly Tuesdays and Thursdays

The Food Bank of Lincoln mission is to alleviate hunger in Southeast Nebraska. Huskers will have the opportunity to organize a food pantry and distribute items to community members Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the summer.

Center for People in Need: weekly Monday–Friday

The Center for People in Need provides services and programs to low-income people that address their basic needs and help them achieve economic independence. Huskers will have the opportunity to organize a food pantry and assist individuals with navigating the center Monday-Friday from 9:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. during the summer.

Habitat For Humanity: weekly Tuesdays and Thursdays

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Students will have the opportunity to assist with construction projects including hanging drywall and painting homes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Step Forward Awards recognize outstanding people and groups for their time and service. Award winners and finalists will be thoughtfully selected by our Governor in tribute to the significant contributions made within the state through volunteerism. Nominations are due by June 1, 2023
