With temperatures rising and the fall semester rapidly approaching, now’s the time to slow down, cool off and soak up the last few weeks of summer. Whether you want to catch a fish, zip through a slide, or swim some laps, there are plenty of places to enjoy the water around Lincoln. Check out these spots where you can cool off and take a dip.


Pawnee Lake
3800 NW 105th St

Just outside of West Lincoln, Pawnee Lake's 740 water acres offer 5 boating ramps/docks and two swimming beaches. Get a group of friends together to join you for a summer cookout using the park's various picnic areas and grills. Pawnee is also a popular fishing spot and anglers can take advantage of the fish cleaning station after their catch. Permits are required to visit all state parks and can be purchased online or in the park.


Branched Oak Lake

About a 25-minute drive from campus, Branched Oak Lake is the largest in eastern Nebraska. Enjoy two swimming beaches or rent a boat from the marina. Grab lunch at The Boathouse Bar & Grill. If you want to spend the night outdoors, take advantage of the park's various camping options. Similar to Pawnee, you will need a park permit to visit Branched Oak.


Bowling Lake
NW 48th & W Cuming St

Bowling Lake Park, near the Lincoln Airport, is a smaller water spot, best for fishing or non-motorized boating. This is also a great spot to revisit in the winter for outdoor ice skating.


Star City Shores
4375 S 33rd Ct

If you prefer a concrete shore, consider spending an afternoon at Star City Shore Aquatic Center. The zero-entry outdoor pool offers two water slides and lap lane areas.


University Place Park & Aquatic Center
2000 N 48th St

Whether you want to relax in a lounge chair or make a big splash off the diving board, this outdoor pool is located right next to East campus.


Campus Recreation Center
841 N 14th St

When it's just too hot out or you need a break from the sun, get a few laps in at Campus Recreation Center's indoor pool.
