UNL Husker Vote Coalition is partnering with Civic Nebraska in recruiting volunteers to serve as nonpartisan Election Observers for the May 14 primary election in Nebraska. Election Observers spend 1 to 2 hours on election day monitoring a polling site.

As part of their observations, Election Observers gather information and chronicle data regarding how elections are run from county to county in our state. They also record any irregularities or different treatment of voters. Volunteers will also confirm that polling places are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Election Observers must be at least 18 and live in Nebraska and be registered to vote in Nebraska and must attend one training before May 7, 2024 to participate in the election day observation. Trainings will be held via zoom and last about 90 minuets.

Upcoming trainings are on these dates:

April 15, at 6 p.m.
April 17, at 6 p.m.
April 23, at 6 p.m.
April 25, at 6 p.m.
April 27, at 10 a.m.
May 1, at 12 p.m.

Sign up to volunteer.

HVC and Civic Nebraska use the information that is gathered to build a post-election report, which is shared with county election officials, state election officials, and the public to identify areas of success and improvement. This report also informs future legislative initiatives that can improve Nebraska voters’ experiences.
