The University of Nebraska Brass Quintet will present their Spring Recital on Monday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The program takes the listener through styles from the Renaissance, the Baroque and into the Twentieth Century. It features music by two different Bachs (both Johann Sebastian and Jan) and a rarely performed work for quintet by Edward Gregson. The piece Foliations by Jan Bach is interesting in that the ensemble is presented with a 19-movement composition where we are allowed to pick from the movements as long as it begins with one particular piece and ends with another particular piece. Everything else is up to the quintet! The program is rounded out with Allan Dean’s arrangement of the Praetorius Dance Suite from “Terpsichore”.
The University of Nebraska Brass Quintet is comprised of brass faculty members including Scott Quackenbush, K. Craig Bircher, Dr. Alan Mattingly, Dr. Scott Anderson and Craig Fuller. The quintet is dedicated to the performance of original repertoire works and new music for brass quintet. The quintet has performed on the Omaha Chamber Music Society Series, the Meadowlark Festival, The International Brass Chamber Music Festival and have toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
The performance is free and open to the public.
