Fellowships available for online weather and climate course
Take the course GEOS 898: Weather, Climate and Climate Change online this summer and take advantage of professional development opportunities through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln conveniently and affordably.
At this time of social distancing, UNL’s Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes (NMSSI) is making a renewed commitment to teacher learning. Just as much of the nation is expected to shelter in place, we want to encourage teachers to “learn in place.” GEOS 898: Weather, Climate and Climate Change will be offered asynchronously (work at your own pace) in a five-week-long format from June 8-July 10.
UNL has made several decisions that will result in substantial savings for graduate students taking summer classes. Tuition will be set at the in-person rate ($332 per credit hour for Nebraska residents and $652 for non-residents). Moreover, UNL will waive both the University Program and Facilities Fee (UPFF) and the Online Course Fee. Read more about the costs here: https://scimath.unl.edu/nmssi/2020/costs/.
NMSSI courses offer two additional benefits: a 20% tuition discount for Nebraska teachers and a special NMSSI Fellowship for Nebraska teachers. You can apply now for an NMSSI Fellowship.
This course (Class # 10128, Section # 501) will cover the scientific principles that govern our planet's weather and climate, and will demonstrate ways to teach these concepts to students using experiments and observations. Participants will leave the course with the confidence, knowledge and resources to teach their students about weather, climate, and climate change.
