Limited number of fellowships available for Math 802T

A limited number of tuition fellowships are still available for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes.

While Nebraska teachers automatically qualify for a 20% tuition discount for all web conferencing courses (unfortunately, the discount is not extended to online asynchronous courses), teachers can apply for supplemental NMSSI fellowships to further defray tuition costs. NMSSI fellowships, typically $300 per course, can reduce the cost of one web conferencing course to $590.15 or one asynchronous online course to $896. Complete the NMSSI Summer 2021 Fellowship application at: https://go.unl.edu/scimathapply. Start by creating an account on the CSMCE Application Portal.

One of the 10 graduate courses for middle-school mathematics teachers this summer is Math 802T, which is being offered in both instructional formats – web conferencing and online asynchronous.

Math 802T: Functions, Algebra and Geometry

Web conferencing (synchronous Zoom delivery) in two weeks: June 21-July 2, M-F, 8 a.m.-noon (Class # 3354)
Online asynchronous in five weeks: July 12-Aug. 12 (Class # 8561)

Math 802T is a solid first course for teachers just beginning their NMSSI graduate courses in mathematics. This course offers an introduction to the concept of a function and addresses both algebra and geometry topics. The course will deepen teachers’ understanding of the concepts of variable and function, problem solving, measurement, and geometric modeling, with emphasis on the connections between these concepts. Math 802T is part of our effort to assist teachers as they develop a strong foundation in mathematics focused on the mathematics that must be understood deeply to teach well at the middle grades. This course has been taught successfully in Math in the Middle to grades 4-8 teachers.
