Learn more about evolutionary biology
Evolutionary biology is one of the opportune topics being covered this summer in one of four graduate courses for science teachers through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes.
A new course to the NMSSI program, BIOS 897: Evolution in Action will be taught via web conferencing from July 5-16 (Monday-Friday) in the afternoons, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (on Zoom, with breaks) by UNL School of Biological Sciences faculty member Anna Hiatt.
BIOS 897 will review major evolutionary principles, investigate the importance of the Nature of Science in the teaching and learning of evolutionary biology, and help teachers build a framework for developing an inquiry-based approach to teaching evolutionary biology.
Nebraska teachers automatically qualify for a 20% tuition discount for all web conferencing courses. Limited funding for science course fellowships are also available. The fellowship application is now open at https://go.unl.edu/scimathapply. Start by creating an account on the CSMCE Application Portal.
