Web conferencing, online courses add to flexibility in summer PD options

11 graduate courses for middle-level mathematics teachers will be offered this summer through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes, in a variety of formats. Visit the course catalog to read course descriptions: https://go.unl.edu/nmssi-course-catalog-2024.

Besides three courses being offered in Lincoln, teachers across the state can take advantage of NMSSI courses offered via web conferencing (synchronous on Zoom) or online (asynchronous). Two-weeks-long web conferencing courses vary in their live Zoom hours, allowing teachers to pair courses. Times listed below for web conferencing are approximate, as the live, whole-group hours on Zoom will fall within that window of time (we recommend you save the rest of the listed time for working in small groups on homework).

As follows are web conferencing and online course options.

* Math 812T: Geometry for Geometry Teachers, June 10-21, 1-5 pm
* Math 800P: Number and Operation for K-3 Mathematics Specialists, July 8-17, 8-12 pm
* Math 801P: Geometry, Measurement and Algebraic Thinking for K-3 Mathematics Specialists, July 18-26, 8-12 pm
* Math 802T: Functions, Algebra and Geometry for Middle-Level Teachers, July 8/19, 8-12 pm

Those close to Omaha, may want the following course.

* Stat 811T: Statistics for Middle-Level Teachers, June 24-28, 8-5 p.m.

How to Apply to UNL or Enroll
If you took a class at UNL in the past year, you are eligible now to register through MyRed: https://myred.nebraska.edu. If you are NOT an active graduate student at UNL currently (active meaning you have taken a course in at least one of the past three semesters and have not recently graduated), you will need to apply to UNL as a graduate student first before you can register. Here is a link to the admission application: https://go.unl.edu/gradapp. You can apply as a non-degree-seeking, post-baccalaureate student without declaring a master's program, so search for “post” in the program selection step. Once admitted to UNL, please log in to http://go.unl.edu/gradappstatus to complete the decision form, and within 1-2 business days you should then be able to enroll via MyRED.

If you aren’t sure which graduate degree is right for you, visit our website on Graduate Opportunities: https://scimath.unl.edu/grad-opps.

The Benefits of the NMSSI:
