Course Description
Little remembered from (or more often not even covered in) trig class, vectors are seldom seen in high school outside the physics class. Yet these simple, elegant descriptors of so many important physical quantities can be made intelligible by analyzing careful drawings. From civil and mechanical engineering, geology, meteorology to the mechanics of the human body, most science students will eventually encounter vectors in some form. All material will be presented at a level accessible to those with only a background in basic algebra.

What You'll Learn:

  • Explore problem-solving strategies for advanced physics problems, including starred end-of-chapter questions
  • Gain proficiency in working with vectors in three dimensions, expanding your spatial reasoning skills
  • Understand the algebraic definitions of physical quantities and their applications in real-world scenarios
  • Delve into calculus concepts such as differentiation and integration within a physics context

Why Attend?
  • Equip yourself with effective teaching strategies to demystify vectors for your students
  • Learn how to seamlessly integrate calculus concepts into introductory physics lessons
  • Enhance your ability to interpret and analyze graphs of time-varying motion, force, and energy
  • Network with fellow educators and exchange insights on best practices in teaching physics concepts

Special Offers for Nebraska Educators

As a commitment to supporting our local educators, current Nebraska teachers are eligible for a 20% discount on in-state tuition at UNL. Additionally, teachers can apply for a supplemental tuition fellowship to further reduce the cost of enrollment.
