UNL, ESU 4 offer math course for teachers

The Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes (NMSSI) offer fellowships for graduate mathematics and pedagogy courses that are in a weeklong format to help you take advantage of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's professional development opportunities conveniently and affordably. Math 802T: Functions, Algebra and Geometry for grades 5-10 teachers of mathematics will be offered in Auburn this summer.

Fellowships worth $300 are available now to help pay for tuition! Apply here: http://go.unl.edu/scimathapply

As follows are the course dates, times and description for the Auburn course at ESU 4:

June 6-10, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

MATH 802T: Functions, Algebra and Geometry – Class # 2991, Sec # 951, Instructor: Jason Vitosh, Falls City High School

This course is designed to help teachers gain a deep understanding of the concept of function and the algebra and geometry concepts taught in the middle-level (through early high school) curriculum. Studying this content at a deeper level will help teachers better prepare their students for the NeSA-M. Participants also will study measurement with an emphasis on length, area and volume. Functions, Algebra and Geometry is the second course in the Math in the Middle curriculum and has been successfully taught to both elementary and high school teachers. Middle-level mathematics teachers (grades 6-8) should find the course both accessible and useful, and it is not necessary to have previous experience with MATH 800T. Grade 5 teachers who have completed MATH 800T should also find the course accessible and useful. Math 802T is not open to teachers who have completed Math 810T or Math 811T.

The Benefits of the NMSSI:
