UNL graduate courses come to North Platte, Holdrege this summer

Are you looking for professional development that helps you with the NeSA-M and state mathematics standards? Have you been wanting to take courses that are designed specifically for elementary teachers, instead of the standard K-12?

The Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes (NMSSI) offer fellowships for graduate mathematics and pedagogy courses that are in a weeklong format to help you take advantage of UNL’s professional development opportunities conveniently and affordably. Math 804P for grades K-5 teachers will be offered in North Platte this summer from June 6-10 at ESU 16.

MATH 804P: Problem Solving & Critical Thinking for Elementary Teachers (Class # 3225, Sec # 954) seeks to build a strong foundation for the teaching and communication of mathematical concepts by the hands-on development of critical-thinking skills via problem-solving experiences. It provides a guided opportunity for the implementation of problem-solving instruction that is aligned with the Nebraska mathematics standards in both the primary (K-2) and intermediate (3-5) elementary classroom.

Enroll now to secure your spot in Math 804P, and apply for a $300 NMSSI Fellowship before the funds run out! See application steps in story below. For all NMSSI course offerings, see: http://scimath.unl.edu/nmssi

We also have an opportunity for grades K-3 teachers to participate in the highly-successful Primarily Math program in Holdrege, starting May 31. Applications are due April 15, 2016. Lodging will be available.

Primarily Math is for outstanding Nebraska elementary teachers (grades K-3) who want to further study mathematics and the teaching of mathematics, and conquer any math anxiety. Teachers earn a K-3 Mathematics Specialist Certificate from UNL upon completion of the 18-hour graduate program.

Primarily Math Greater Nebraska grant funds will fully cover all tuition and fees for the first course in the program (Math 800P) and lower the cost of the remaining five courses from as much as $1,100 in tuition and fees per course to an average of $343 per course for 20 teachers from high-need schools and to approximately $530 per course for 10 teachers from other Nebraska schools.
