Only one week left to apply for Primarily Math
Only one week remains before the application deadline for Primarily Math: Greater Nebraska. Be sure to give yourself enough time to write your essay and gather two letters of recommendation, due by April 15.
Not only is Primarily Math the only graduate program in Nebraska designed specifically for teachers of kindergarten and grades 1, 2 and 3 that focuses on the subject areas of mathematics and mathematical pedagogy, this is also the first time (and the last time for the near future) Primarily Math will come out to southwestern Nebraska.
Primarily Math: Greater Nebraska for grades K-3 teachers begins May 31, 2016, in Holdrege, Nebraska, and the first course (of six total) is completely free, thanks to an Improving Teacher Quality grant from the U.S. Department of Education awarded through the Nebraska Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education and an award from Women Investing in Nebraska.
Primarily Math gives you the training and leadership to be a math specialist at your school or district. Teachers earn a K-3 Mathematics Specialist Certificate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln upon completion of the 18-hour graduate program.
Your essay for the K-3 certificate should express:
1. Your academic and/or professional goals and how the certificate program in Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education will enable you to meet these.
2. Your academic strengths, with specific attention to your background in education and how this qualifies you for graduate study at a major university.
3. Any professional experience, knowledge, and skills you possess and how these further qualify you for graduate study at a major university.
