
Math graduate course for elementary teachers coming to Grand Island
The Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes (NMSSI) program offers convenient and affordable graduate mathematics and pedagogy courses that are in a weeklong format to help you take advantage of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's professional development opportunities. Math 803P: Algebraic Thinking for the Elementary Classroom (grades K-4 teachers) will be offered in Grand Island this summer from July 10-14.
MATH 803P: Algebraic Thinking for the Elementary Classroom – Class # 14261, Sec # 962, July 10-14, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Instructor: Cindy Beaman, Grand Island Public Schools
Discussion will revolve around student understanding of Algebraic properties of mathematics as participants examine case studies, video segments and student work samples. Participants will explore instructional strategies for fostering Algebraic thinking that are appropriate for both the primary (K-2) and intermediate (3-5) elementary classrooms.
For all on-site NMSSI courses, current Nebraska teachers automatically qualify for a tuition reduction equal to 20 percent of in-state, graduate tuition. Additionally, Nebraska K-12 teachers can apply for supplemental NMSSI Fellowships to further defray tuition costs for NMSSI courses.
