Spots still available in TEAMS program
Spots are still available this summer in Nebraska Partnership TEAMS, professional development workshops offered by UNL and NDE. Grades 7-12 science teachers are encouraged to apply for the Earth Science workshop at all five cities across the state (Crete, Fremont, Grand Island, Norfolk and North Platte).
Teachers are paid a stipend of $15 per hour of class, June 5-9 and 12-16, approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day (for up to $1,200). You can choose to earn 3 graduate credits from UNL for taking the course, and you could choose to apply your stipend toward tuition and fees (about $815).
Teachers who live more than 35 miles one-way from their TEAMS site will receive mileage reimbursement for commuting to class. Lodging is available to teachers who live more than 70 miles one-way from their TEAMS site.
The secondary science workshop, "GEOS 898: Special Topics: Earth's Hydrosphere and Geosphere," provides teachers with the science content knowledge to more confidently and effectively teach Earth Science concepts dealing with water (hydrosphere) and rock (geosphere). It provides practical and hands-on lessons that teachers can use in their classrooms, and course facilitators model how to implement active learning strategies to teach the Earth Science content.
TEAMS courses will be held June 5-9 and 12-16, 2017 (both weeks are required) and four Saturdays during the school year (TBD by your regional group). The elementary course and secondary mathematics are held during the same times as the science workshop. A few spots still remain for the elementary and math workshops in some areas.
