Fellowships worth $300 available for math course in Hastings
The Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes (NMSSI) provide a superb opportunity to deepen your knowledge of mathematics and the teaching of mathematics, thereby benefiting the students you teach, and also build your professional development community of peers.
This summer in Hastings, Math 896: Special Topics: Elementary-Integrated STEM (grades K-6 teachers) will be offered at Hawthorne Elementary from June 10-14. This course must be taken for 3 graduate credits.
Modeled after the TEAMS grant and offered last year, we are offering this course in Hastings again due to high demand. In this course (Class # 8042, Section # 595) teachers will learn to leverage science explorations to provide context and meaning to mathematics instruction in the elementary classroom, while also supporting children’s learning of science. Participants will engage in integrated science/math experiences, deepen their knowledge of concepts needed to integrate math and science in their own classrooms, and learn how to develop rich, integrated lessons to engage children in meaningful and memorable learning experiences.
