Reception: Sunday, October 8, 4-6 p.m. OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
The diverse artistic talents of members will be on display at the OLLI Member Art Show opening on October 2 and running through October 30 at the Unitarian Church of Lincoln. A reception is planned for Sunday, October 8 from 4 to 6 p.m., and is open to the public.
OLLI members Judy Hart and Kay Logan-Peters organized the show and are coordinating its activities. The show will feature a variety of disciplines including painting, watercolor, photography, needlework, sculpture, encaustics, and ceramics. In total, there are twenty-eight works of art by fourteen artists. The show is a testament to the incredible artistic vitality that can be found within the OLLI membership.
“Calling yourself an artist in our American culture takes tremendous bravery,” said Judy Hart. “After running a theater company (Angels Theatre) for 30 years, I can tell you that when I call a writer a "playwright" or a performer an "actor" - the new names pull people forward and they become what we call them,” said stated. “We have OLLI members who have been making art all their lives and never considered themselves artists. This is an opportunity for OLLI artists to shine.”
The show celebrates the power of creativity and highlights the remarkable works of art created by OLLI members. It promises to be a delightful experience for both artists and art enthusiasts alike. With an exceptional array of mediums and styles on display, visitors can expect to be captivated by the skill and unique perspectives expressed in the artwork. The show encourages dialogue, promotes the appreciation of art, and supports the continued growth and recognition of talented OLLI artists.
“Most people are creative but don't think of themselves as artists,” said Kay Logan-Peters. “I think OLLI folks will see what their peers are doing and rethink their own creative capabilities. Who knows what fun and creative ideas this show might inspire? Plus, it’s fun to get out, see other OLLI members and socialize,” she said. “We encourage everyone to come to the reception and speak with the artists.”
All art enthusiasts, friends, family, and the public are invited to view the OLLI Member Art Show. The Unitarian Church hours are Sunday, 9 a.m. to Noon, Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information regarding Church hours visit https://www.unitarianlincoln.org/
