The astronomy event of 2017 will be the total eclipse of the sun on August 21. OLLI is offering a motorcoach trip to a viewing destination directly in the path of the eclipse and a pre-eclipse class. Registration is separate for the viewing trip and the class.
The trip will be led by Ed Schmidt, emeritus professor of Physics and Astronomy at UNL, and Skip Morris, retired high school physics and astronomy educator, both OLLI members.
The pre-eclipse class will take place Mueller Planetarium on August 14, with the class repeated on August 15. The content is the same for both. So, register for only one class. Be knowledgeable and learn everything you need to know in preparation for viewing this spectacular events. Learn how eclipses happen, hear some of the myths associated with an eclipse and how to observe this astronomical event.

Location: Motorcoaches will depart promptly at 10 a.m. from Gateway Mall parking lot just north of Younker’s parking deck. Personal vehicles can be parked in this location for the duration of the trip. Buses will arrive back in Lincoln by 4 p.m.

Pre-eclipse class at Mueller Planetarium
Register for only one class only. The content is the same for both .The doors open 10 minutes prior to the class time and close promptly at the scheduled start time. No one will be admitted after the class starts. For your safety, if you leave during the class you will not be allowed to return.

Location: Mueller Planetarium is located at 14th and “U” Streets inside the University of Nebraska State Museum (Morrill Hall) on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln City Campus. The facility is wheelchair accessible. Enter through the elevator located to the right of the main entrance or via the east entrance of the museum. Parking permits will be provided by OLLI.
