Summer Courses

Students often wonder if taking courses at UNL over the summer is a good idea. There are several factors that students should consider before signing up for a summer class. It’s always a good idea to check on your financial aid and/or scholarships to find out if summer classes would be included. Many students may need to think about how classes fit into their schedules around other activities, such as a summer job or a planned vacation.
Summer courses can be a great way to catch up on prerequisites or get ahead on ACE courses. These classes are offered over a shorter time period than in the Fall or Spring semesters so students should be aware that the material may be taught at a much quicker pace. Summer classes at UNL are typically taught in 3, 5 or 8 week sessions so students will need to pay close attention to the start and end date for each class.
It’s important that students meet with an academic adviser before signing up for summer courses. Some majors or programs may suggest certain classes be done in the summer over others. In particular, students on academic probation should typically avoid taking summer courses at UNL. An academic adviser can help a student decide if taking a summer course is in his or her best interest.
