Talking with your child about their sexual and relational health is a lifelong conversation that shouldn’t end once they enter college.
You may be happy, disappointed, worried or uncertain about your student’s sexual choices. No matter how you feel about the subject, it’s important to stay connected with your student and—when appropriate—share with them the sexual health and wellness resources available on campus:
University Health Center
- The pharmacy offers condoms, pregnancy tests and emergency contraception for purchase at a discounted rate.
- The medical clinic provides women and men’s annual health exams, contraceptive counseling and prescriptions, Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, pregnancy testing and referrals, exams for pelvic pain and infections and transgender care services. The medical clinic also provides medical examinations and referrals to students who have experienced sexual assault.
- The lab offers testing for many types of sexually transmitted infections. Doctor-ordered chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV testing is no charge to students who pay student fees. Click here to learn more about STI testing at the health center.
Big Red Resilience and Well-being
- The Protection Connection program offers free safer sex supply kits to students for pickup in their office, 127 University Health Center, and supplies free cover-it kits to the University Health Center medical clinic, the Women’s Center and other locations across campus.
- Healthy Huskers and BRRWB staff members offer interactive workshops on sexual health, relationships and other well-being topics for the campus community as requested.
