How many life-changing, character building, eye-opening opportunities will your student experience in college? Study abroad serves as all three purposes in one. In addition to programs offered by the university’s Education Abroad office, the College of Business brings forward opportunities for students from all across the campus to immerse themselves into new cultures and gain a new perspective by studying and interning abroad.
For the upcoming 2019-20 academic year, the College of Business offers 19 program options in 14 countries including Benin, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, England, Germany, Guyana, Japan, Malaysia, Panama, Senegal and Spain. The time spent abroad can range from one week to an entire semester.
Application deadlines vary based on when your student wants to go abroad. The application deadlines are: winter or spring break programs, October 1; summer programs, February 1; and fall or academic year, March 1. These applications are open now and can be found at https://business.unl.edu/studyabroad.
For many students taking advantage of the opportunity to study abroad means financial help. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln offers a variety of scholarships that can make your student’s education abroad experience possible. In addition to scholarships for business students, the university offers three distinct scholarship applications for education abroad trips including the Maps Scholarship Application that allows you to apply for several awards at one time, the Early Abroad for students going abroad in their first two years at UNL and the Wiebers for students studying a language abroad.
This summer, three students are writing blogs about their global immersion experiences in programs led by the College of Business. Agricultural education major Christy Cooper recently completed her study abroad trip to China. Cooper describes her adventures and how those adventures affect her now that she returned home to Nebraska.
“It’s easy to sum up China with a few good photos of noodles, The Great Wall, terracotta warriors and lanterns, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. The same could be said for any place. Those things only touch the surface. You can share almost everything about a trip to another country, but there’s one thing that can’t be described – the essence of the culture,” Cooper said.
Combining the variety of programs and scholarships, a global immersion experience exists for everyone through the College of Business and other Education Abroad programs. Encourage your student to take a step outside of the country and out of their comfort zone to learn more about the world and themselves.
