The REU experience is sponsored by the National Science Foundation to allow undergraduate students to get an intense research experience under the direct supervision of a faculty mentor. The students in our program also have the opportunity to participate in workshops where they learn professional skills preparing them for further studies and careers in physics and STEM fields. Our grant will cover travel for the students, a $7000 stipend, room and board, and participation in group recreational and cultural experiences. We will also support students who attend a regional professional conference to present results of their summer research.
The FRI experience is funded through BYU and is designed to provide students contemplating graduate work at BYU the opportunity to participate in meaningful research at the university and familiarize themselves with the professors and facilities. There are exciting opportunities in a number of areas including optics, computer modeling, plasmas, solid state and thin film science, acoustics, theory, and astronomy. International students are encouraged to apply as funding is available.
Past participants have been very positive about their experiences. Most presented their results at regional and national meetings, and several participated in work which has been or will be published.
Our application is live.
