Husker Trade Talks Featuring Jason Hafemeister, Trade Counsel and Associate Administrator, USDA Foreign Agricultural Service

The Yeutter Institute hosts Husker Trade Talks for students two to three times per semester. These free events feature individual speakers or panels discussing trade-related topics such as USMCA, tariffs, biotechnology, trade journalism, supply chain challenges and more.

This semester’s Husker Trade Talks will feature Jason Hafemeister, Trade Counsel and Associate Administrator, USDA Foreign Agricultural Service and will take place on Friday, February 20th from 12 PM – 1 PM. In his role, Hafemeister helps develop and implement U.S. agricultural trade policy. He has been involved in agricultural farm and trade policy since 1991, including nearly 30 at USDA and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. He served as lead negotiator for numerous trade agricultural trade agreements, including China’s accession to the WTO, the Central America Free Trade Agreement, and the WTO Doha negotiations. He was awarded the Presidential Rank Award in 2024. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley, a master’s degree from the University of California at San Diego, and a law degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
