City of Ralston Government Public Relations Intern

Position Overview
The City of Ralston is seeking a motivated and creative City Government Public Relations Intern to support storytelling, research, and outreach efforts related to local businesses, redevelopment initiatives, and community priorities. This internship offers hands-on experience in municipal operations, policy research, community outreach, and public-sector communications.

The intern will primarily work under the direction of the Grants Writer and Economic Development Director researching community-relevant topics, interviewing local stakeholders, and producing engaging written and video content that highlight Ralston’s residents, businesses, projects, and events. The intern will also provide administrative and logistical support for community events and economic development initiatives. The City is seeking a candidate available to work between 10 and 15 hours per week for a minimum commitment of 14 weeks. Applicants should indicate in their cover letter the days and times they are available to work for a minimum of three-hour blocks between Monday and
Friday, 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with some flexibility to assist with community events outside standard business hours.

Required Qualifications
 Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program in
journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, political science, public policy,
or a related field
 Strong writing and storytelling skills with attention to clarity and accuracy
 Strong reading comprehension, research, and data analysis skills
 Comfortable conducting interviews and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders
 Basic website management, social media platform management, video production and
editing skills (smartphone video acceptable; experience with editing software is a plus)
 Interest in local government, economic development, community planning, or small
business
 Organized, self-motivated, and able to meet deadlines
 Ability to work in-person at Ralston’s City Hall
 Selected candidate will be subject to a background check and drug screening
