The College of Business has the unique opportunity to host a film screening of an award winning documentary, THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE, which exposes the risks and rewards of today’s market, while making students aware of a landscape that’s rife with scams, bad advice, and a fear of missing out. The film screening will be followed by a Q&A session, moderated by Dean Kathy Farrell, with the film’s co-directors, a representative from FINRA, and the Deputy Director of the Securities Bureau in Nebraska. The panel will also include Dan Kearns, the father of Alex Kearns, a 20 year old UNL management major who, in June 2020, died by suicide after a misunderstanding with the Robinhood app showed he was $730,000 in debt. This event will shine the light on the importance of financial literacy to mental health and well-being.
