In 2022, we administered a survey on the existing PLCs at our partnering institutions and received 13 responses. Prompted by those responses, we see opportunities for collecting insightful tips and best practices from our partnering institutions on several topics ranging from starting a PLC to sustaining changes in our curricula, from identifying challenges and barriers to supporting mentoring and cohort-building efforts. Our first topic of interest is on producing a how-to list of best practices for starting a PLC.
Given the above, we are now seeking input of practices to start a PLC that your local PLC has tried, or you have heard of from other PLCs. Example practices such as identifying goals of the PLC, establishing norms for the PLC, deciding on shared leadership or otherwise, deciding on logistics (e.g., how to meet, when to meet, how often) to support the PLC, deciding on whom to invite to the PLC, deciding on how to recruit members to the PLC, etc.
We plan to review and process the responses, compile a list of practices, and then share them again later to solicit a ranking on them to produce a final list of best practices.
To help use with this effort, we encourage you to respond to the following survey! The survey will be open until November 18, 2023.
