In a tucked-away corner of East Campus hidden behind the College of Law lies a small plot of land where students gather each week to connect, learn, and grow food for their peers. It is called the Student Organic Farm.
The Student Organic Farm (SOF) has been around since 2013, and has grown into an organization focused on reducing food insecurity in the Lincoln community while providing education on small-scale organic farming through hands-on learning. Every year, SOF grows food using national organic standards including no synthetic herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers and instead utilizing intercropping methods and local compost.
This season SOF is hosting the 2nd Annual Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)! We will have three different CSAs (spring, summer & fall) to supply our customers with fresh organic produce every week for 20 weeks throughout the season. By purchasing a share, people are directly supporting the farm and UNL students,
Members will be allowed to pick up their share each week during their chosen day and time (either Tuesdays from 4:30pm–7:00pm or Saturdays from 9:00am – noon).
Spring season will include fresh greens and other veggies (e.g. kale, salad, garlic scapes, spinach, and Swiss chard, etc.). Summer and Fall will include fruits (e.g. cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, basil, green beans, etc.) and outdoor plantings of veggies (e.g. eggplant, tomatillos, summer squash, hot peppers, watermelon, dill, etc.).
Member will be allowed to buy additional produce when coming to pick up their allotted share. Produce is also available for general community purchase.
