The Husker Lives of College Girls

Husker Women Leaders
Husker Women Leaders

March is Women’s History Month and this month we got the chance to connect with four incredible women led RSOs: Women’s Club Soccer, Women+ in Entrepreneurship, Muslim Women’s Collective, and UNL Women’s Club Basketball.

While Club Basketball and Club Soccer obviously share their love of the game, Women+ in Entrepreneurship and the Muslim Women’s Collective help round out a fantastic representation of our Husker women in leadership.

Empowerment was a huge theme amongst the four groups. Caitlin Adrian, president of Women’s Club Soccer shared that one of the greatest joys of being a member of this team is “empowering women to be their best selves in an inclusive environment while challenging each other”.

The Muslim Women’s Collective is a new RSO that works to "amplify Muslim women’s voices, create valuable experiences, promote unity and solidarity, and contribute to the betterment of the Muslim community at large.” Their president, Tasneem Bouzid has really enjoyed seeing her “fellow Muslim female peers form new bonds and strengthen existing ones.”

The business sector is still a male-dominated field and Women+ in Entrepreneurship works to “[connect] like-minded female students to the women-owned entrepreneurial community in Lincoln”. Their president, Kelsie Caven, has found immense joy in ”building a female-driven community with [her] peers [and] seeing tangible change happen. Not only [does her RSO] reflect on and learn from how far women have come in the entrepreneurial community, but [they] are able to watch [their] members build businesses and communities themselves.”

There truly is Love & Basketball. For Michelle Reese, an officer in UNL Women’s Club Basketball, patience has been one of her biggest life lessons. “It takes time, especially in life, to get good things, thus I would say that life is a lesson in patience. She offers strong advice for not just RSO leaders, but for the greater Husker community, We college students need to recognize opportunities and don’t be afraid at all and seize them.”

We are so proud of our Husker women in leadership and wish you all a Happy Women’s History Month.
