Engage in a morning of service from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025. Urban Plunge offers opportunities for Huskers to help local nonprofits with yard work, serving meals to participants, sorting donations, and other service projects.

Volunteers are asked to sign up in advance. On the day of the event, meet at the Nebraska Union's Broyhill Fountain at 8:00 a.m. to check in and meet other volunteers. Busses will transport all volunteers together, departing at 8:30 a.m. to the various service sites. Students will return to campus by 10:30 a.m.

Nonprofit partners include:

Good Neighbor Community Center
Center For People
Lincoln Children Zoo
Conservation Nebraska
Foundry
Capitol Humane Society
Nebraska Diaper Bank
Lincoln Parks and Recreation

Additionally, students can apply to serve as site leaders for volunteer projects.

Urban Plunge is part of Big Red Welcome. It supports and cultivates a spirit of engagement and service on campus and in the community. The experience provides first-year students with an opportunity to explore the potential ways they can use their skills to make a positive impact on the campus and local communities.
