Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln

The Associate Chapter of Lambda Phi Epsilon International Fraternity, Inc., Liberty and North Korea Rescue Team, Asian Student Union, Vietnamese Student Association, South Asian Student Association, Chinese Student and Scholars Association, B.O.M. Korean Cultural Club, and the Kawasaki Reading Room, in cooperation with OASIS is hosting the innagural Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage month at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. We will be paying tribute to the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America’s history and are instrumental in its future success.

Moon Festival hosted by Lambda Phi Epsilon

The Mid-Autumn Festival (Moon Festival) is a celebration of the Autumnal Equinox, when the moon is at its peak brightness and size in the night sky. Please join us in the Union Plaza for traditional Vietnamese Lion Dance, moon cakes, hot tea, and music.

Mister and Miss Asia hosted by Vietnamese Student Association

Mister and Miss Asia will be an educational pageant, consisting of three rounds: cultural entertainment, cultural attire, Q&A. The contestants will scored at the end of each round from the judges. However, at the end of the cultural attire round, there will be no score given due to respect. The couple with the highest scores will walk away as the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Mister and Miss Asia. The event will spread awareness of other cultures, traditions, practices, and educate the audience about Asian culture, all while having an enjoyable time and forging relationships with other RSOs.

Chai Time Fundraising hosted by South Asian Student Association

Authentic Indian Masala Chai tea sales to raise money for India's Rescue Mission, a non-profit fighting human trafficking in India. Come out and buy some tea for a good cause!

"Rethinking Empire in the Twentieth Century" Presented by Distinguished Speaker Louise Young hosted by the Kawasaki Reading Room

Japan built a wartime empire in Asia in the 1930s, and after losing that empire in 1945, created a trading imperium under the American cold war umbrella. Join us for a fascinating lecture exploring the economic, social and political forces lead to the formation of modern Japan. Visiting scholar Louise Young is a member of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS), Northeast Asian Council (NEAC), Distinguished Speaker Bureau, a Princeton Institute of Advanced Study Scholar and Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
