Introduction to Human Geography
Geography of the United States
World Regional Geography
Geography of the Great Plains

What is your favorite course to teach and why?
Geography of the Great Plains
The Great Plains are seemingly empty in the American geographical imagination, but in reality they have a history that is full of culture and are home to rich social interactions today.

How and/or why did you choose this field? Geography is the perfect mixture between human and physical landscapes. I also love maps!

What are you currently researching?
Rural residential decision making. Specifically, why people choose to stay in rural areas. I also research the connection between rural depopulation and six and eight-man high school football.

What are some ways students can be involved in your research?
Tell me their story! I want to know about the landscapes they grew up in and how they were shaped by them.

Why should students major in your field?
Geography gives you the skills to understand the world we live in, how humans and nature interact, and the relationships between cultures and places.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work (hobbies, other interests)?
I spend a lot of time with my dog, Rose. We try to travel to and explore as many small towns and parks as possible.
