Major: Geography
Hometown: Omaha, NE
Year at UNL: Second year at UNL, third year of college!
Favorite Book:
I am currently reading Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas. I have never read a fantasy series before, but it's my friend's favorite that she bought me for my birthday.
Favorite movie:
My favorite movies are Hallmark movies, especially once the holiday season begins. I can sit on the couch and watch three in a row when it gets cold outside.
Why I am studying geography:
I chose to major in Geography because I had taken a few courses in the school of natural resources that were cross listed with Geography and I thought it would be a good major to choose since I was a little behind having transferred and already changed my major. I ended up taking GEOG 181 with Dr. Bitterman, and I loved learning about human/environmental interactions and how they played a role in the study of geography. My most interesting classes this year are GEOG418: Intro to Remote Sensing and GLST350: Refugees, Displaced Persons, and Immigrants. I did not think I would enjoy remote sensing as a technical elective, but it has proven to be a diverse area of study that can be applied to natural resources, urban or rural areas. My global studies class has taught me to think more broadly, openly, and critically. Geography has so many interdisciplinary fields of study to choose from, if you can find one facet that will serve you well in the future it is a great major to choose!
Study Abroad:
I studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark after my freshman year for 3 weeks during the summer through DIS Copenhagen. I took an Environmental Philosophy class in one of the most sustainable cities in the world, it was a fantastic experience.
Extra Curriculars:
I am the president of the UNL Crew Club on campus, it is the club rowing team. I started rowing my freshman year at my previous university and have really enjoyed it ever since. We have our own boathouse on campus and row at Pawnee Lake when the weather is nice. It is a great workout, a fun way to meet friends, and the views are always great on the water! Post-grad plans:
My post-graduation plans are to hopefully serve with AmeriCorps or CityYear for a year and then go to law school once I am finished!
