Hometown: I am from Overland Park, KS.
Year at UNL: I am a 1st-year freshman at UNL.

Favorite book and why:
It might sound a little basic, but I loved The Great Gatsby. The book is truly a timeless classic and an excellent depiction of societal constructs and ultimately the hopelessness of the ‘American Dream’.

Favorite movie and why:
One of my favorite movies is Parasite. The movie is phenomenal in depicting the disparity between social classes with the rich and the poor. Parasite is unpredictable and includes a twist that I would not have seen coming. I definitely recommend this movie to everyone who hasn’t seen it.

Why Global Studies?
I originally chose to pursue a degree in Global Studies because of how interdisciplinary the major is. I have always been drawn to learning about the world and communities outside of mine. I understand the importance of learning about other cultures and recognizing the interconnectedness of the world and interdependence of world economies, cultures, and populations. I chose the major of Global Studies because I knew that it would provide me with all of the tools to become an optimum global citizen.

Some of the most interesting classes that I have taken so far would be Intro to Global Studies with Dr. Emira Ibrahimpasic, and International Relations with Dr. Miller. Intro to Global Studies was my first look into what the Global Studies major entails. I loved learning something new each day in class. Learning about a multitude of global issues and the never-ending human rights violations occurring around the world, led me to declare my minors in Human Rights and National Security Studies.

If you are someone who is contemplating majoring in Global Studies, I definitely would recommend doing it! The major is incredibly interdisciplinary meaning you can go down many different paths career-wise.
