NASA DEVELOP projects focus on helping local, national, and international communities address their environmental concerns while utilizing NASA's Earth observing fleet of satellites. NASA DEVELOP operates at eleven locations across the country at NASA Centers and other regional locations. This is a great opportunity for those interested in practical applications of remote sensing and GIS, specifically in the field of Earth Science. Participants will work with NASA scientists, partner organizations, and science advisors to learn about the use of NASA Earth science data for use in water resources, disaster management, ecological forecasting, and other applications to address environmental community concerns.
Participants address environmental and public policy issues through interdisciplinary research projects that apply the lens of NASA Earth observations to community concerns around the globe. Bridging the gap between NASA Earth science and society, DEVELOP builds capacity in both participants and partner organizations to better prepare them to address the challenges that face our society and future generations. Teams of DEVELOP participants collaborate with decision makers to conduct rapid 10-week feasibility projects that highlight relevant applications of Earth observing missions, cultivate advanced skills, and increase understanding of NASA Earth science data and technology.
Details about this opportunity and how to apply can be found online at https://develop.larc.nasa.gov/. The spring position application window will be open online from August 30th through October 8th, with the term starting January 24th and lasting through April 1st. Please note some DEVELOP locations will allow for in-person opportunities while others will be completely virtual. For virtual locations, all accepted participants must work remotely from within the United States. Details on location status will be posted on our website when the application opens.
We are also hosting virtual “About DEVELOP” webinars on Wednesday, September 22nd @ 3 pm ET and Thursday, September 23rd @ 11 am ET in an effort to provide information about our capacity building program and how potential and interested candidates can apply and participate in the program.
We have 11 U.S. locations at NASA centers and regional collegiate locations. The goal of our virtual webinars is to not only provide program information to potential candidates, but to also generate discussion with prospective applicants outside of virtual platforms, such as Handshake and social media. We would like to learn more about our potential future candidates and provide them with the resources they need to be to successfully apply to NASA DEVELOP.
