ANTH 265: Global Health

Why are some Americans getting third shots of COVID-19 vaccines when most of the world has not had one? Why are old diseases like tuberculosis still killing people? Should I be worried about Nipah virus?! If you’re interested in learning the answers to these questions, enroll in ANTH 265: Global Health this Spring!

This course will explore how health has varied through time and space and on how human behaviors have contributed to these global health patterns. Our approach will be to combine anthropological, public health, and ecological perspectives to explore how behavior, biology and cultural forces contribute to dynamic health and disease environments. We will examine how large-scale processes, such as migration, development, urbanization, social inequalities and globalization, shape human health and well-being. Don’t worry; they’ll be plenty of gross diseases too.
