You’ve probably heard that we can judge a society based on
how well it cares for its children. In this course, we use
human rights theory to understand and analyze the laws and
systems in place to protect and promote the well-being of
children. We begin with the history and implications of the
claim that children have rights, and then explore challenges
and opportunities in promoting the rights of the child. We
explore a vast array of children’s rights issues, including
some you may have heard about already, like gun violence or
domestic abuse, and others that you may have never
considered, like climate change, birth registration, and many
more. This course is meant for anyone interested in working
with children, having children, or who was once a child.
