This fall, students in this five-week experiential learning course, "Anthropology 492: Stitching Culture: U.S. - Japan Quilt Exhibit Collaborative" collaborated internationally to curate an all-new quilt exhibit. Their exhibit, displayed at the International Quilt Museum (IQM) opened this past Friday evening (September 20th) in the Pumphrey Gallery and will remain open to the public through March 2025. The class and the collaboration is the result of a global cooperation between UNL and Japan's Saitama University. This hands-on class gives students an opportunity to work in a world-class museum learning how to think about and prepare for a museum exhibition, how to do the research, write labels, how to mount objects, how to select objects, and how to care for objects. Additionally, this course allows students to work alongside and learn from experts in the field and gain valuable experience that can translate to a career in museum field.
The course is scheduled to take place again in the fall of 2025 and all students no matter their major are welcome to sign up. If you have questions, please reach out to Kristin Plath, kristin.plath@unl.edu
